The Israeli-born technology executive, Safra A. Catz, was named the sole CEO of the multinational computer technology corporation, Oracle, reporting to Larry Ellison, the tech giant’s founder, executive chairman, and CTO. Safra’s family relocated from Israel to the US when she was six, and she was raised in Massachusetts. She graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree and from the University of Pennsylvania Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. Before she became an executive at Oracle in 1999, she worked as a banker then served as a managing director at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. After joining Oracle, she became a member of the corporation’s board of directors in 2001, president in 2004, and chief financial officer from 2005 to 2008 and 2011 to present. Catz has been repeatedly ranked among Fortune and Forbes magazines’ most powerful women in business, and in 2011, she was identified as the highest-paid woman among Fortune 1000 companies.
